                                                                                                                          What are we shedding?, 2020

In this work, I want to explore consumerism and examine the state of self-awareness in a "Spectacle Society."

After investigation, I found that people are caught in an infinite cycle of consumption and following trends; they buy, hoard, discard, and buy again. In this cycle, the utility of consumer goods gradually becomes a spectacle. A de-violent, invisible social system influences our consumer behavior and sense of followership. I use clothes as a symbol to observe people's consumption behavior and to question: Are people's identity and consciousness slowly becoming uniform and assimilated due to the overall consumer market, social media, and trends, leading to aesthetic hegemony?

I chose a gel mask as the material. It is a cleansing mask used for a hot products. Throughout the work, I collected gel masks from different people, and each person's skin textures were recorded, even hair, skin flakes, etc. Then, I sewed them into "skin clothes." Trying to create an illusion of human molting.
